AN ELDERLY man who died after his car overturned in Alcester has been named.

Leonard Percival Yearby of Malt Mill Lane passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on Friday, March 21, after his car overturned.

The 89-year-old was trapped inside his Rover 45 for about 45 minutes after it rolled on to its roof along an unnamed road between Arrow and the Kingley Bend.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene shortly before 9.40am and worked with fire crews to stabilise the man and cut him free from the car.

He was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with suspected chest, pelvic, hip and arm injuries but died shortly after arriving.

An ambulance, a Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and a paramedic area support officer all attended the scene.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Whilst ambulance staff administered pain relief and medical treatment to him, the fire service worked carefully to extricate the man from the vehicle.

"Once his condition had been stabilised, the man was fully immobilised with a neck collar, spinal board and pelvic splint.

"He was then carried on a stretcher to the air ambulance, which had landed in a nearby field, before being flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, for further emergency treatment.

"The hospital was alerted to the serious condition of the patient. There were no other vehicles involved."

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact PC 1001 Pearson, at the Operational Police Unit in Rugby, on 01926 415 000 ext 3890.
