A STUDLEY woman who has planted a tree to feed residents wants the scheme to grow nationwide.

Ellouise Eades installed an apple tree and raspberry plants by her front garden in a bid to offer neighbour’s free fruit.

The tree, which was donated by Redditch’s B&Q store for free, is set to be one of many which the mother of three hopes to see planted in Studley as part of the Carter Project.

The scheme will include tying tags to the branches of the tree as it blossoms which will tell passers-by to help themselves and shows the official logo created by her friend David Yarnell.

The 32-year-old said the idea was first thought of by a friend who helped her out when she was struggling financially at Christmas.

“She refused to let me pay her back and so I wanted to set up the project as a way of saying thank you,” she said.

“You see more and more people using foodbanks and I just think if people started to take to the idea and it did spread it could make a big difference.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of people and they either love the idea or hate it, it’s a bit like Marmite. But the point is it is fresh, healthy food that can be grown for free and should be accessible to all.”

The Eldorado Close resident added she wanted to work with members of Studley in Bloom to build support for the campaign and hoped to build up a following within the village before taking it nationally.
