AN AUTHOR who has combined writing and sport visited a borough school to inspire pupils.

Birchensale Middle School students had a talk from Dan Freedman, who wrote the bestselling Jamie Johnson series of books about a schoolboy who dreams of being a footballer.

Mr Freedman, who is also a freelance sports journalist, told the children about the famous footballers he has interviewed and about his own thwarted ambition to be a professional footballer as well as signing copies of his books.

Headteacher Hilary Dowding said: “Dan was a real inspiration to all our young writers, showing you can combine writing with your favourite activity to have a really exciting career. Dan’s Jamie Johnson books are flying off the library shelves.”
