A YOUNG performer has proved fund-raising is a snip by chopping off his precious locks for charity.

George Kings had always refused to have his hair cut short, even opting to wear it in a pony tail when moving schools rather than face the chop.

But he recently agreed to take to the barber's chair to raise money for performing arts charity Indigo Arts, of which he is a member.

The ten-year-old had about 20 centimetres of his hair removed for free by Upper Cutz in Droitwich and raised £700 in the process, which will go towards continuing to fund the work of the charity.

The group moved into the youth centre on the Kingsley College site following the closure of Kingsley Theatre in 2012 and needs to raise £5,000 a year to keep going following funding cuts.

Cathy Moss, Indigo projects director, said: "George is absolutely delighted, and we think he is nearly as proud of his new haircut as we are of him."
