Brakes are put on housing plan over access fears

A HOUSING application has been halted after fears emergency services would not be able to get to residents.

Plans to build 39 homes off Dixon Close, in Enfield, were deferred by councillors on Redditch Borough Council’s planning committee last Wednesday (March 12).

The proposal, which included 12 affordable homes and a mix of semi-detached, terraced houses and bungalows, was put on the back burner by councillors after concerns about access to the site were raised.

Coun Pat Witherspoon said: “I have seen the difficulty myself of fire engines trying to get up there and they can’t get by.

“I am worried about the over development of that area, it has got quite critical.”

Coun Joe Baker added the area was very congested and cars parked along the roads was a particular issue.

“I find it very difficult to drive down there myself. If I was an ambulance or fire engine it would be extremely difficult to get to people,” he said.

“Time is a life, and I’m not happy with the health and safety aspect of it.”

After hearing councillors concerns Coun Roger Bennett put forward a motion to visit the proposed site before a decision was made, which was unanimously backed.

“Listening to the serious concerns councillors have raised I think it is only right,” he added.

The application will now go back before the committee at a later date.
