CHILDREN will be racing to the finish line to collect a daffodil for their mother as part of a special event held in Alcester.

The Run For Your Mum day, taking place the day before Mother’s Day, will see all youngsters who complete a race given a flower to present to their mother as well as medals for themselves.

A series of races will take place in the town centre next Saturday (March 29) from 50m events for little ones aged up to two to a 2km race for those aged seven to 16. Anyone taking part should register outside the Post Office from 9.30am up until 15 minutes before the races which begin at 10.30am.

Other attractions on the day include face painting, an ice cream van and live entertainment.

Organised by Kids Run Free in conjunction with Alcester Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Alcester Town Council and Warwickshire County Council, it is the first time the event has been put on in the town.

Chamber chairman Sam Rath told the Standard if it proved popular they hoped to make the run an annual event.

“Generally the response has been very good, there are a lot of people interested so we are hoping to get a lot of people coming along on the day.”
