CONCERNS about bullying have led to a trio of Facebook pages being removed after offensive and racist comments were made about borough residents.
Spotted Redditch Rats, Certifiedskets Redditch and Baby Mommas Drama around Redditch were all taken down from the site after the Standard was alerted to abusive and defamatory comments by a worried mother.
Posts included naming people and claiming they had sexually assaulted children, cheated on their partners, as well using racially abusive language.
A spokeswoman from Facebook said all three pages were taken down because they violated the site’s statement of rights and responsibilities which included using a fake name or false identity to operate a page, as well as language which could be seen as bullying or harassment.
A spokesman from West Mercia Police said those posting abusive messages about others could be committing an offence and potentially face a jail sentence.
“Online harassment involving the posting of derogatory or offensive messages is a form of bullying. It is taken seriously by West Mercia Police, and when reported is dealt with appropriately,” he said.
“We urge victims to report abuse to the social networking site concerned in the first instance, and if it continues, to the police, who may investigate.”
