PART of Redditch’s needlemaking heritage has been revived in a new store.
Buttons & Bows is an old style haberdashery set-up in The Old Needleworks in Britten Street and was officially opened on Saturday (March 8) by Redditch MP Karen Lumley. It has been fitted out using shelving rescued and restored from the 19th century Ashleigh Works building opposite.
The shop stocks vintage and modern fabric, buttons, beads, patchworking and a range of other items for all types of hobby and crafting.
It also stocks Charlie Bears, Silver Tag Bears and hand-made button bears created by co-owner Donna Hancox, who set-up the shop with Myra Burton.
Donna said: “The centre needed it but Redditch needed it, we don’t have that many places you can buy fabric or felts in the town anymore.”
Mrs Lumley said she was meeting with officials from the Lottery to discuss how funding could be accessed to support the development and expansion of more businesses.
“It’s always brilliant to see new enterprises starting up. It’s a great thing for Redditch and The Old Needleworks is amazing and hopefully can be expanded further.”
The shop’s open between 10am and 4pm Tuesday to Sunday and Mondays by appointment.
