A TEENAGE boy has died after an incident in the River Arrow in Redditch this afternoon (Sunday).

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the scene, by the Five Tunnels, near Church Hill, at 12.30pm after reports of three teenagers getting into difficulty in the water.

Two of the boys were rescued from the river and, after being treated for minor injuries, were released. But the third, who has been named by police as 15-year-old Richard Fellows from Brockhill, could not be found.

The specialist Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) team in wet suits joined other emergency services staff and searched the water for two hours.

The third teen was eventually located and medics tried to resuscitate him and started advanced life support.

He was then taken to the Alexandra Hospital by ambulance but later died.

Supt Kevin Purcell, commander of North Worcestershire Police, said: "Our thoughts are with the family after this tragedy."

The police also confirmed a report was being prepared for the Worcestershire Coroner.

The Standard reported in July last year how a six-year-old girl and her 11-year-old brother had to be rescued from the River Arrow, near the Five Tunnels, after getting into difficulty in the water.

Following that incident, calls were made to Redditch Borough Council to put safety measures in place in the area and an urgent report was undertaken by the authority.
