Police rewarded for their actions

A REDDITCH detective has been praised for his role in stopping two men brandishing a gun outside a town centre club.

DC Saf Ali received a superintendent’s commendation for his part in the incident, which also involved Sgt Steve Saunders and PCs Chris Woolman, Samantha Moore, Samantha Connop and Dave Hawkins.

PCs Woolman, Hawkins, Connop and DC Ali followed a vehicle in which the suspects were travelling while Sgt Saunders and PC Moore updated their colleagues with vital information.

The vehicle was stopped in Bromsgrove by other officers and a firearm recovered. Although it was an imitation, it had been converted into a weapon capable of firing live ammunition.

The involvement of the officers was praised by the force duty inspector and armed officers present at the time, with all officers involved also receiving commendations from Superintendent Kevin Purcell at a previous awards evening.

PC Dan Icke was also handed a commendation for saving a woman threatening to jump from a bridge in the borough during the Christmas period.

The officer and a colleague were attempting to talk to the woman when she started climbing the barrier but they rushed forward and took hold of her before she was able to climb over, saving her life.

A further award was handed out to PC Simon Albutt from the Wythall and Alvechurch Safer Neighbourhood Team for his role in a ‘prolonged and complex neighbour dispute’ in Hollywood.

The incident resulted in a restraining order being obtained and eventually an eviction order.

PC Albutt received the commendation for his positive action, the emotional support he provided to the victims and his ‘determination and patience’.
