Housing plan numbers remain unchanged

PLANS to build 6,400 homes for Redditch people before 2030 have remained largely unchanged despite months of extra scrutiny.

Local Plan No 4, which sets out where development should take place, was sent to Government planners on Wednesday (March 13) despite originally being scheduled to be submitted at the end of last year.

Redditch Borough Council officers decided to delay the process after the South Worcestershire Development Plan - the equivalent for the south of the county - was sent back by the Planning Inspectorate as some of the same evidence used for the SWDP's housing numbers had been used in Redditch too.

But, unlike with the SWDP, officers have decided to submit the plan with only minor changes and are still recommending 3,000 homes be built within the borough boundaries with a further 3,400 in Bromsgrove.

The Inspectorate will now test the soundness and legal compliance of the plan in public over the summer, with the council set to adopt the plan soon after that if it is ruled as sound.

Coun Greg Chance, responsible for planning, said: "This plan has been in creation for over seven years. During that time we have held numerous public consultations and amended the documents to reflect residents' concerns where possible, and the changing evidence we have been given on the local area. I am pleased it has now been submitted.

“I would like to thank all the staff for all their hard work and professionalism in making this plan which I am confident will serve the best interests of the entire borough."

All of the documents will soon be available at www.redditchbc.gov.uk/examination with some documents also available for inspection weekdays from 9am to 5pm at the Town Hall and the customer service centres in Batchley, Winyates and Woodrow, Redditch Library, Woodrow Library and the Mobile Library.
