A CCTV image has been released of two men police want to trace in connection with an unprovoked attack outside an Ipsley Street shop.

The incident happened outside A-Z News at 12.45am on Sunday (February 9), moments after the 36-year-old victim had bought cigarettes from the kiosk there.

He was approached and punched in the face by a man he did not know. He fell over and was then kicked and punched by another man while still on the ground. The pair were part of a group of young men who ran off towards Millsborough Road.

The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital with injuries including a swollen lip, bloody nose and sore forehead.

PC Zowey Marshall said: "This was a nasty, unprovoked attack and we are determined to catch those responsible for this. We have obtained CCTV footage of two men we would like to trace who may have information which could be very valuable to our investigation.

"We are asking for help to identify these people and would appeal to anyone who recognises them from the photo to contact us immediately. We would also renew our appeal for information from anyone who may know who was involved in this incident."

Anyone with any information should call PC Marshall on 101, quoting incident number 42-S-090214, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
