AN ESTATE has been divided over a security cabin donated to a community project, its chair has claimed.

David Morris told the Standard the cabin - which is worth £2,500 - will now have to be returned after some residents objected to it being placed on a piece of grass near to the Abbeyfields' play area.

He has now found someone to remove the unit but the Grow, Eat and Look Nice project - which has attracted attention from the Heart of England in Bloom - will now be restricted to just those who live on Red Hill Close.

Mr Morris, who has resigned from his position on the parish council as a result of the argument, said the cabin would have been a 'wonderful asset' to the project, being used as a secure storage unit and a workshop for residents to make bird tables and boxes.

It would also have been refurbished to look like a garden shed.

"In the past I have turned a blind eye to certain comments made about Red Hill Close and tried and tried to involve and unite our estate in our common goal, we all live on the same estate so let's do so with pride in our united community."

He added an apology letter had been sent to residents but the members of the project were upset the gift from Tamlite Lighting would have to be removed today (Friday). A businessman has stepped in to cover the costs of the removal, as well as giving a donation to the project.

In the letter, he apologised for stress caused but rejected accusations he was benefiting financially from the project, adding he was resigning from the parish council and had withdrawn all plans to have any structural development done to the area.
