REDDITCH has been named the least musical place in the UK.

Researchers at Goldsmiths, University of London came to the conclusion following a major study into music psychology.

They analysed data from 94,000 participants across the UK and found musical ability is linked to a person’s profession, education level and even their average income.

People working in music, media, and educational professions also maintain or extend their musical skills throughout later stages in life.

Dr Daniel Müllensiefen, lead researcher on the project from the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, said: "Perhaps the most surprising result was the relationship between income and musicality. With a couple of exceptions, people who lived in postcode areas with a higher average income performed better in the music ability tests. The next question we’re going to tackle is the cause behind this relationship."

Despite the findings of the research Redditch can lay claim to a number of talented musicians. Here are some of the most notable:

John Bonham - legendary drummer in rock band Led Zeppelin once dubbed 'The biggest band in the world'

Harry Styles - born in Redditch at the Alexandra Hospital - although grew up elsewhere - and member of One Direction, one of the biggest boy bands in musical history

Nigel Clark - lead singer in 1990s band Dodgy and responsible for the feel good anthem Good Enough which reached number four in the UK Charts

Tony Martin - lead singer in Black Sabbath

John Taylor - bass guitarist and co-founder of pop rock band Duran Duran. He grew up outside of the borough in Hollywood but attended The Abbey High School (now Trinity High School) in Redditch

Luke Johnson - drummer with Lostprophets from 2007 to 2013

New Killer Shoes - an up and coming band that was chosen to tour with Adam Ant
