AN ALVECHURCH woman will be dusting off her walking boots to raise money for a charity which helps to care for her father.
Verity Shears will be putting her best foot forward in a five mile walk from Alvechurch to Barnt Green and back again, in a bid to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Her father Brian, who lives in Cornwall, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012 and is now undergoing radiotherapy treatment.
The keen walker, who has raised £570 so far, said she chose to organise a Walk For Life because of the fantastic work Macmillan did.
"Their cancer support team are just brilliant. My father has a nurse who visits him and their work is fantastic.
"I've took part in the Race for Life before but I thought this would be the better option being pregnant.
"The walk is such a lovely walk and why not make the most of the beautiful environment here."
She will be joined by her brother as well as other friends this Sunday (March 2) where they will set off from the Red Lion pub at 11.30am.
The Red Lion Street resident, added: "Anyone can join us if they would like to. Even though I've reached my £500 target anything extra would be just fantastic.
"It would be great to double it to £1,000 but I don't know if that is possible."
