CONSERVATION in action will greet visitors to Coughton Court next month.

The National Trust property will be opening its doors for 2014 on Saturday (March 1) with a unique chance for visitors to see the conservation team at work as they put the historic house back together for the new season.

Coughton will be holding a ‘Conservation in Action’ month where visitors will be able to see a variety of conservation techniques and pick up some top tips for the perfect spring clean.

Conservation Manager Helen Robertson said: "During the closed months Coughton has undergone the second phase of a four year re-servicing programme which has seen two kilometres of cable laid to bring the property up to modern day standards and protect the fabric of the building for the future.

"The main showrooms were carefully packed up and protected, the floorboards were lifted and the panelling was removed. With a week scheduled between completion of works and opening we thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to bring the house back to life in front of visitors.

"We hope this will give an insight into what happens behind the scenes at Coughton Court and each day we will be doing something different - from ceramic and book cleaning to caring for the tapestries, and on March 1 and 2 we’ll be re-hanging the droplets (back) on the stunning chandeliers in the Saloon."
