AN AUCTION raised more than £5,000 for the hospital which cared for a Winyates girl.

The event held last Friday (February 14) aimed to boost funds for the Birmingham Children's Hospital which looked after Lucie Southall during her battle against leukaemia.

The brave 12-year-old passed away in August last year and since then her parents Michelle and Wayne, as well as family and friends, have been raising money to go towards the £4 million refurbishment of Ward 15.

About 150 people attended the evening, including MP Karen Lumley, and enjoyed a three course meal, disco and entry into a raffle to win a bottle of champagne.

Items which went under the hammer included a signed Aston Villa shirt and ball, a dartboard signed by stars including Phil The Power Taylor, a signed copy of comedian John Bishop’s autobiography, as well as a JLS signed book, an autographed copy of Cliff Richard’s album, a bottle of scotch signed by the Prime Minister and expensive perfumes.

Lucie's brother Ashley, along with friends, also created a calendar which has raised £5600 for the ward. They also served up meals to guests on the night wearing purple bow ties which was Lucie's favourite colour.

Mr and Mrs Southall thanked everyone who came to the event and supported their fund-raising efforts.

"The generosity shown was truly overwhelming, to raise so much money in our daughter's name to help others is a wonderful thing, and we will carry fund-raising for The Lucie Southall Leukaemia Fund."
