A BLOCK of toilets which have been closed for more than a decade are set to be turned into a community hub.
Redditch Community Amateur Boxing Club was given the green light to transform the defunct loos in Matchborough Centre by Redditch Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday (February 12).
The £25,000 redevelopment will create a reception area, a place for organisations to meet as well as space for school pupils and adults to do work on laptops.
It will open from 9.30am until 8.30pm from Monday to Saturday to coincide with the boxing club’s opening hours and is expected to be ready in six weeks.
The building will be attached to the current boxing club through an internal link and is being funded through grants from West Mercia Police and the Lottery Fund.
Coun Joe Baker, said: “I think the building will be a great asset to not only Matchborough, but the whole community. We should be proud to have this service in the town.”
Owner Sarah Lee said the approval was great news for the club.
“We can now extend our services to the community so everyone can be involved,” she said.
“We are not just about offering boxing, we want to open up and help a wider range of people. A place for the whole community to come to.”
