Lara’s spooky tale made into book

COUGHTON Court certainly sparked the spooky imagination of young Lara Hogdson.

The nine year-old from Surrey penned the winning entry in the The National Trust’s Spooky Story competition.

Lara, who regularly visits the historic country house when she visits her granddad in nearby Alcester, was selected as the winner with her terrifying tale The Secret Priest Hole.

Lara’s story was inspired by one of Coughton Court’s more gruesome artefacts - the blood stained chemise said to have been worn by Mary Queen of Scots when she was beheaded.

Her prize was to have her story illustrated and made into a book that she can share with her family and friends.

Lara said: “I entered the competition because I love writing and there were lots of historical facts about Coughton Court that I could entwine with some of my own ideas to make an interesting story.”

“When I found out I’d won I was ecstatic and ran round screaming.”
