A TAXI driver was grabbed by the throat during a robbery in the town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning (February 9).
The victim, a man in his 50s, picked up three men near Shipley's bingo hall at 12.30am. They asked to go to several locations but changed their minds a number of times before asking to be dropped off in Kinnersley Close at 1.10am.
Before the taxi could drive off, they stopped the vehicle and one of the men grabbed him by the throat and demanded cash. He handed over about £30 from his pockets and they ran off.
The offenders were all white and the one who assaulted the driver was tall and slim, aged between 18 and 20 and had a long face and a long, black jacket.
Door to door enquiries have been carried out in the area and CCTV footage is being gathered in a bid to identify the men.
Det Con Amjad Iqbal said: "Although the taxi driver was not injured violence was used and we need to trace these men as soon as possible. We have a fairly good description of one of them and would like to hear from anyone who may have seen these men in the town centre last night or in the Kinnersley Close area."
Anyone with any information should call police on 101, quoting the incident reference number 49-S-090214, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
