THE WORCESTERSHIRE Coroner has delivered an open conclusion verdict at the inquest into the death of a man who was killed by a lorry on the northbound carriageway of the M42.

The incident happened on December 16 between Junctions 2 and 3.

Last month, West Mercia Police released a poster as part of a reappeal in a bid to find out who he was.

On it was a picture of the man, who is Middle Eastern and in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene about 10.15pm.

He had brown eyes, a black goatee beard and short, black receding hair.

At the time of the incident he was wearing black jeans with a black leather belt and silver coloured Thomas Burberry buckle. Under his jeans were a pair of black tracksuit bottoms. He was also wearing a navy blue, heavyweight denim jacket, a dark coloured jumper with a white vest underneath, and black Puma slip-on trainers.

Two Yale keys on a pink key fob were also found on his body.

He is believed to have been living in a hostel in Sparkhill or Acocks Green in Birmingham and CCTV images show he visited a medical practice but failed to turn up for his appointment.

He told staff he was born in France and spoke Arabic, while he may have previously lived in Wales and worked as a chef.

Insp Sion Hathaway said: “We have a possible name but none of the staff at the hostels we have checked recognise that name and no-one of his description has been reported missing.

“It’s a real mystery and we would appeal to anyone who recognises him or the keys he had with him, or if they think they know who he might be, to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with any information should call the Central Motorway Police Group on 0121 626 1289, quoting the incident reference 2380 of 16/12/13.
