Man punched in attack near town centre

A MAN was taken to hospital after being punched in the face near the town centre.

The 36-year-old victim was buying cigarettes from A-Z News in Ipsley Street about 1am on Sunday (February 9) when he was approached by a group of men.

He was punched several times to the face by one of them and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital with a swollen lip, sore forehead and bloody nose.

The men, who are all white, ran of towards Millsbro Road and the main offender was wearing a red top.
