MORE than 100 Brownies from Alcester and the surrounding area celebrated turning 100.

The milestone known as the Big Brownie Birthday saw hundreds of thousands of Girlguide members from across the country mark the occasion.

Children from Girlguiding Alcester and Avon District kick-started the celebrations with a prom.

The seven to ten-year-olds planned everything from their outfits to the food and entertainment, as well decorating the venue with individually made bunting.

A magic show, a disco, and an extra special birthday cake were enjoyed by all.

Stephanie Jackson, district commissioner, said: “In true Guiding fashion, the girls were given a voice and were fully involved throughout the planning stage.

“But I don’t think any of them realised just what a special evening they would help to create. It was a great way to bring together girls and leaders from right across our District, including Alcester, Welford, Bidford and Salford Priors.”
