LOVE will be in the air as Alcester flies the flag for a project aimed at attracting more customers to the town’s shops.
As part of the Paint The Town Red project, heart flags will be flying in the streets for two weeks to coincide with the British Heart Foundation’s national awareness campaign today (Friday) and next Friday (February 14) for Valentine’s Day.
Staff are set to wear red clothing and display balloons while the Turk’s Head will be temporarily changing its name to the Turk’s Red and serving coloured beer.
A Big Red Tea Party will also take place on Saturday, February 15, to help promote the high street’s tea and coffee shops.
Sam Rath, chairman of Alcester’s Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said: “The town team has come up with the idea of painting the town red, with support from Operation Footfall, at what is generally a quiet time of the year.
“Both our campaign and the British Heart Foundation’s Ramp Up The Red campaign run at the same time so we have used their logo on all our advertising to try and attract some support.
“Everyone is interested in what’s going on and we will be trying to get some footfall into the town and help the businesses.
“We try and go for things that are sustainable so if it is successful next year should be relatively straightforward to repeat.”
