A MEMBER of staff from Bright Kids nursery has been arrested after police were contacted by a parent.
The employee was arrested at the Crabbs Cross branch of the nursery yesterday morning (Tuesday) and has now been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Police have refused to reveal the nature of the offence.
Detective Superintendent Steve Cullen said: "This inquiry is at a very early stage and more details are being obtained. Whilst we keep an open mind, at this time it appears to be an isolated incident.
"Our primary concern is the safety and welfare of the children attending the nursery. We will be progressing the inquiry in accordance with national protocols.
"We are speaking further with the parent and child concerned and working closely with our partner agencies including Worcestershire County Council Children's Services as well as Ofsted.
"The nursery is issuing all parents and carers with a letter explaining, as far as is possible, the reasons for our activities and is fully supporting the investigation.
"This inquiry is not linked to the ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at Bright Eyes Nurseries, which had branches at Bromsgrove, Redditch and Droitwich."
Nursery owner Tricia Wellings said: "We can confirm that West Mercia Police has arrested a member of staff at the Crabbs Cross branch of Bright Kids nursery.
"We are fully supportive of the police investigation and we would like to reassure parents that our main concern is for the welfare of all of the children in our care and we have strict safety procedures in place.
"The police have told us that given the actions that have already been undertaken that they have no ongoing concerns for the safeguarding of the children here and that no children are at risk. We cannot comment further but if parents have any concerns they can contact the nursery management at any time or call the police non-emergency number 101"
She added a parents' meeting had been organised for 6pm tomorrow (Thursday) which would be attended by police and senior staff from the nursery.
Any parents or carers with immediate concerns can contact police on 101 or Bright Kids on 01527 546028.
