A WEBHEATH woman got her five minutes of fame when she presented an award to Coronation Street stars on live television.

Sarah Fergie awarded the honour of best serial drama to the cast of the ITV soap at the National Television Awards last Wednesday (January 22).

The 37-year-old was picked out of the crowd at random by host Dermot O’Leary after she was given a VIP ticket from a friend at the last minute.

The Birchfield Road resident said: “My friend won tickets on the internet and was supposed to be going with her cousin, but she dropped out a few days before.

“I was told a member of the public would be presenting an award but just assumed they had already been told.

“I was texting on my phone saying Dermot was presenting right in front of me and before I could finish my text he was talking to me.”

The Redditch Day Centre support worker was then taken on to the stage where she met This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby and was told to read from a teleprompter.

“I was terrified, I was shaking like a leaf. I Just remember the clips were playing for the shows and Dermot gave me an envelope and told me to open it and announce the winner.

“All the actors started to come on stage and the man who plays Roy Cropper gave me a hug and then Julie Hesmondhalgh who plays Hayley Cropper was talking to me. I just couldn’t grasp what was happening.”

“I cannot remember who won the rest of the awards because I was just in complete shock. I’m still shocked now.”
