A LAPTOP containing a teenage girl's GSCE exam preparation work was stolen in a spate of thefts from vehicles.
A total of 12 thefts took place in Astwood Bank between Monday (January 20) and Tuesday (January 21), including 11 from vehicles and one car which was actually stolen.
The incidents happened on roads including High Street, Dewsbury Close, Foregate Street, Weston Hill Close, Badger Brook Lane, Avenue Road, Priest Meadow Close, Chestnut Road and Butler Street. Some cars were locked and others were not.
The vehicle theft happened in New Road when two youths were seen pushing a green Land Rover, registration number L15 GDC, off the drive.
Some of the items stolen included sat navs, laptops and cameras.
A 15-year-old girl, who suffers from dyspraxia, had her laptop taken containing work which she had done in preparation for an English exam next week.
Her mother said: "She uses the laptop as she has dyspraxia which affects her co-ordination and fine motor skills, including writing.
"The use of a laptop has been a real life line to her."
It follows a warning from officers last week about an increase in the number of vehicles being targeted in Astwood Bank, Crabbs Cross and Webheath since November.
Patrols have now been stepped up.
PC Richard Waterhouse, local policing officer for Redditch South West, said: "Owners need to make sure they always lock their vehicles and remove all valuables."
"It is also important residents are vigilant and ring police if they see people acting suspiciously.
"We are urging them to have a glance out of the window before going to bed, or if they get out of bed during the night as they may have been disturbed by a noise from outside without realising it.
He added: "Always ring 999 immediately if a crime is believed to be in progress."
Anyone with any information about the incidents should call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
