A NOISY neighbour who blasted music into the early hours of the morning has been fined £1,600.

Vicky Hawthorne, of Evesham Road in Crabbs Cross, was convicted in her absence by Redditch Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (January 16).

The court heard how the 33-year-old failed to comply with a noise abatement notice served by Redditch Borough Council which banned her from playing loud music for long periods and at unsociable hours.

She was given the notice following a number of complaints to Worcestershire Regulatory Services by residents who said she played loud base music at all hours of the day and night, including until 5am on September 8.

Officers from Environmental Health installed monitoring equipment in a house next to Hawthorne’s to record the volume of noise and following the recordings she was served a court summons on October 28.

She was found guilty of failing to comply with the abatement notice causing a statutory nuisance and was ordered to pay a fine of £1,600, costs of £1,367 and a victim surcharge of £120.

Audio equipment including a CD player, speakers, media players and CDs were also seized from the property and will remain with Worcestershire Regulatory Services after magistrates granted a forfeiture order.

Coun Lucy Hodgson, WRS joint committee chair, said the high level penalty imposed demonstrated how seriously magistrates considered the problem.

"WRS does not take the issue of instigating legal proceedings lightly, however it was considered the only option in this case, as all attempts to resolve the matter by other means had failed," she said.

"Worcestershire Regulatory Services take noise complaints very seriously and will continue to crack down on noise complaints in the future."

Anyone experiencing noise nuisance problems should contact Worcestershire Regulatory services on 01905 822799.
