CHURCH Hill pupils graduated earlier than expected after they transformed their school hall into a university.

Key stage two children from Abbeywood First School were joined by students and lecturers from the University of Worcester to learn all about university life and the courses on offer as part of the Children’s University Trust.

The trust, which provides out of school hours activities for those aged seven to 14, encourages pupils to raise their aspirations, boost achievement and foster a love of learning in the hope they will want to go into further education.

The Wood Piece Lane school has now been recognised as the first in Worcestershire to become a Children’s University, which means it is an internationally recognised centre of learning.

As part of the official status, some of the children who take part in the out of hours learning sessions will have the chance to go to their own graduation at the University of Worcester in June.

A spokeswoman from the school said: “The ethos and aspirations of Children’s University sit absolutely with our own school ethos and we are very pleased to be offering validated out of hours learning for the pupils in our care.

“We believe this to be an excellent opportunity for the children.”
