FROM a galaxy far, far away, stormtroopers visited Redditch to officially open the new Specsavers store.

As well as the intergalactic stars, four legged friends from Guide Dogs for the Blind also joined staff at the New Walk store which opened on Saturday (January 11).

Redditch Mayor Wanda King also paid a visit to the shop where staff offered sweet treats and face painting for children in return for donations to the guide dogs charity.

This event is part of an ongoing partnership with Guide Dogs for the Blind which has already seen Specsavers raise enough money to pay for the breeding and training costs of 25 guide dog pups.

The new store is double the size of the previous shop and has equipment such as a digital retinal camera as well as a dedicated in-store hearing centre.
