FAMILY members from across the pond flew into Redditch to celebrate a special resident’s 100th birthday.

Elizabeth May Peel, known as May, reached the milestone on Wednesday (January 15) surrounded by more than 60 members of her family including five generations.

Mrs Peel, who was born and bred in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, moved to the town 20 years ago to be closer to her daughter Pauline after several moves in the city.

As one of nine children, she met and married William Peel for nearly 70 years before he passed away in October 2003.

The couple had two boys and five girls together, while ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren followed.

Family from Colorado and California were among those who visited her for a birthday party at Terryspring Court where she has lived for five years.

Daughter Pauline said: “She said she didn’t want any fuss and asked me how old she was going to be again. I told her she was turning 100 and she said she didn’t want to be that number. She is a real character.

“To have five generations including me, mom, my daughter, her granddaughter and her great granddaughter altogether in one room is great.

“I never thought when I asked the family to come over from America they would, it is brilliant for everyone.”
