A FORMER television reporter turned politician helped launch a Labour campaign in Redditch attacking the Government for hitting working families.

Gloria De Piero, shadow minister for women and equalities and a former GMTV journalist, joined Labour’s Parliamentary spokeswoman for Redditch Rebecca Blake in Market Place on Saturday (January 11) to launch the Cost of Cameron campaign.

Labour claim under the Conservative led government families are on average £1,600 worse off each year and their policies are failing to help working mums and dads.

They say since 2010 childcare costs have risen 30 per cent, five times faster than wages, while for low income earners there’s been no increase in Working Tax Credits for child care costs.

Redditch MP Karen Lumley said the Government had cut income tax for 25million people, frozen council tax and fuel duty, while increasing the entitlement to free education and care for three to four-year-olds to 15 hours per week.

“It’s all very well standing handing out a few leaflets but what is Labours plan B? And how are they going to fund it? More of the same I suspect. More borrowing, more debt.”
