NEW EQUIPMENT worth £600,000 is set to be installed at the Alexandra Hospital.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has invested the money into a second CT scanner for the Woodrow Drive site.

The radiology team currently works with just one state-of-the-art scanner, but with rising demand a second was needed by the department.

The new CT equipment will be used to scan 120 patients a week and will allow staff to work more efficiently and make sure patients receive their scans within national waiting targets.

Emma Land, superintendent radiographer, said: “Our existing CT is still one of the most up-to-date scanners available on the market so it’s a real bonus to be able to announce that we’re doubling our capacity.

“It’s going to be a huge benefit to the local population and our team is excited about the new development.”

The equipment should be up and running by April and will also create four new jobs.
