A REDDITCH crooner who usually shies away from the stage is through to the semi-finals of a talent contest.

Frank Clarke performed several big band hits in the first heat of Search for a Star 2014 at the Austin Sports and Social Club on Saturday (January 11).

And, after Frank’s renditions of Moondance, Summer Wind, The Lady is a Tramp and Still, he was put through to the next round, along with fellow singers Chloe Miller and Ally Ray.

People had been badgering Frank to sing in the Search for a Star for more than six years, but he had always refused. Then, on new year’s eve, the committee members who had a CD of him singing, told his wife they had wanted him to perform at the venue and she put him forward for this year’s contest.

He told The Standard: “I was shocked to go through because many of them performing on the night had a lot more stage experience than me and one of them even had a record contract.

“I didn’t think I had a cat in hell’s chance.

“I want to thank my wife Helen for entering me because I wouldn’t have done it on my own.”
