A VARIETY of events will be held in Redditch and Bromsgrove throughout January to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month.
The month which recognises the contribution made to society by LGBT members of the community usually starts in February but the celebrations are beginning early this year with special film screenings at the Artrix in Bromsgrove.
Blue is the Warmest Colour will be shown on Tuesday (January 14) and Thursday (January 16) while Kill Your Darlings will appear on Sunday, January 26, and Tuesday, January 28.
An exhibition showcasing a photographic poster collection called Living My Life - Celebrating the Lives of Transgender people will be held at Redditch Library on Saturday, February 1, from 11am until 3pm.
The Artrix will also be hosting a photographic exhibition by Jeremy Williams, as well as the a screening of the digitally remastered The Wizard of Oz on Thursday, February 6, while Bromsgrove Library will hold talks to raise awareness of LGBT History Month on Tuesday, February 11.
The celebrations will then finish with the annual Queer Quiz from the Sou’Westers on Wednesday, February 26.
Fiona Scott, equality policy officer for Redditch Borough Council, said: “Year on year LGBT History Month is getting bigger, better and even more popular.
“The theme for 2014 is music which is why we are particularly excited about our headline showing of The Wizard of Oz as it will mark the 75th Anniversary of this charming, classic, sing-song family film, the perfect way to celebrate LGBT History Month.”
