AN INSPIRATIONAL Redditch couple have been awarded highly commended certificates from the Stroke Association.

Keith and Rita Upton attended a special event at the Hilton Hotel in Bromsgrove which was held to honour those people who were nominated in the 2013 Life After Stroke Awards.

Keith was awarded his certificate in recognition of the commitment, support and care he gave his wife, Rita, when she was recovering from a severe stroke in 2008, which left her unable to use the left side of her body.

Rita received her certificate for the work, time and dedication she gave while volunteering for The Life After Stroke Centre, in Bromsgrove, since her stroke.

Keith said: “Life has changed enormously for us both since 2008 but I don’t regret becoming a full-time carer at all – I’m lucky to be able to help Rita make such amazing progress with her recovery.”

Rita added: “Keith has been a huge support throughout my experience of stroke and continues to be by my side every day.

“With his encouragement, I began volunteering at the Life After Stroke Centre in Bromsgrove, and it’s now such an important part of my life.

“Having Keith by my side, I know I can make it.”
