Centre may get revamp

A MATCHBOROUGH building could be revamped after the current occupiers were granted an extension on their lease.

Community enterprise organisation Your Ideas moved into the Matchborough East Community Centre on a seven-year lease earlier in 2013.

But it has now been extended to 12 years to enable them to bid for funding which requires at least a ten-year lease to improve the building.

They will now be able to bid for £60,000 from the SITA Trust to turn the soft playroom into a computer, gaming and homework area, replace the flooring on the ground floor, put disabled access to the first floor in place and refit the kitchen.

The decision was approved at an executive committee meeting on Tuesday (December 10).

Coun Greg Chance said: “This council has a proud history of supporting and working with the voluntary sector.

“Your Ideas provide a much-needed service in the area.

“Extending to a 12-year lease is a technicality but it will allow them to bid for further funding to improve the service being providing which will benefit the people of the town.”
