CHILDREN told the story of young shepherds who were put at the bottom of the heap in a twist on the classic nativity story.

More than 60 reception pupils at Webheath First School dressed up as sheep, stars, shepherds and the traditional Mary and Joseph, as they took part in the modern Christmas play in front of fellow classmates.

The production called Baa Baa Bethlehem follows the story of a group of young shepherds who are shut out by their elders but they eventually learn to involve them.

Teacher Zoe Lawton said every child had a role to play whether it was speaking, singing, dancing or holding a prop up.

“We are really excited to perform in front of the parents. I’m sure there will be a few tears in the hall. They have done so well and I’m so proud of them.”
