AN ALCESTER councillor has been presented with a prestigious award for her hard work and commitment to the town.

Sue Adams, who has been mayor three times and a member of Alcester Town Council for over 20 years, was given the Paul Harris Fellowship award by the Rotary Club of Alcester Alauna.

More than 100 people including the mayor of Alcester, councillors, Alcester Court Leet, and members of the Rotary from across Britain gathered to watch Mrs Adams be presented with the honour at the annual Tree of Lights ceremony at St Nicholas Church last Saturday (November 30).

The accolade is named after Rotary founder Paul Harris and demonstrates significant support for the work of the foundation and exceptional service.

Following the presentation councillors Mike Gittus and Lennox Cumberbatch praised her for her loyalty and commitment to Alcester and the hard work she does for charities and organisations in the town.

Mrs Adams follows in the footsteps of her late husband Jim Adams, who also received the award in the 1980s.

"I'm just completely honoured to receive the award. I was in complete shock and I'm truly grateful that my fellow Rotarians felt I deserved it," she said.

"My husband was presented with the fellowship, so it makes it even more special. It is just incredible, I'm so thankful and I still can't quite believe it."
