RIDEGWAY Middle School has unveiled its new £20,000 science lab which will also become a training centre for teachers.

The Evesham Road school officially opened its Phiz lab last Wednesday (November 27) as part of a scheme by the Ogden Trust which works in partnership with six schools in the county and Warwickshire.

It includes the borough's Webheath First School and St Bede's Catholic Middle School, as well as St Nicholas' C of E Primary School in Alcester, Bromsgrove School and Bidford On Avon C Of E Primary School.

The trust helps to provide funding for schools and encourages them to work with other educational establishments to promote teaching and learning in physics.

As well as aiming to improve the quality of learning with event days, trips and lectures, the partnership also encourages the schools involved to hold joint activity events and competitions.

The new lab, which was a former classroom, will now serve mainly Year 5 and 6 pupils at the school as well as becoming a training room for science teachers.

James Thompson, assistant headteacher and leader for science at the school, said it would make a big change to how pupils took part in practical science and improve their learning.

"As an Ogden Trust fellow, I've been working with the Trust and this is great news for the school. It's a fantastic room which provides all the facilities that pupils need to thrive and we look forward to seeing the pupils use it throughout school life."
