A WOODROW man has been given a two year Anti Social Behaviour Order after a spate of violent outbursts.
Joshua McKelvie, from Longdon Close, was handed the ASBO at Redditch Magistrates' Court on Thursday (November 21) after the court heard evidence of assaults, threats, verbal abuse and drunken behaviour in a number of licensed premises.
The 22-year-old is not allowed to enter Woodrow Centre, Chadwick Mews, and the Jolly Farmer pub on Woodrow South, including its car park and beer garden.
He is also banned from communicating with two unnamed people, as well as using foul, abusive or threatening language or behaviour, within hearing distance of a person who could find it offensive.
He is further banned from encouraging people to also do the same.
Sgt Neil Billingham, of West Mercia Police, said whilst gathering evidence against McKelvie he had heard many accounts from a large number of residents, business people and his friends who all feared his violence.
But the majority of those people were too frightened to come forward.
"As an ASBO application is classed as a civil case, which means that hearsay evidence and third party evidence is all admissible, I was therefore able to present the evidence of many of these fearful witnesses to the court while still maintaining their anonymity."
He added it was the 20th ASBO or Criminal Anti Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO) police in the North East of Redditch had obtained.
All had been successful in modifying the offender’s behaviour and reducing the number of offences committed.
"We are working tirelessly to ensure members of the communities we serve are able to go about their lives free from this sort of behaviour, and other similar applications are already in the pipeline."
PC Alan Bolton, who is the local police officer for the Woodrow area, added:"I have already received several favourable comments from local people who welcome this action."
If McKelvie breaches the order he could be sent to prison for up to five years.
