A MAN was rugby tackled to the floor and had money stolen from him during a robbery near to a Redditch petrol station.
The victim, who was in his 30s, had bought some items at the BP Garage in Washford Drive and was walking towards the bus lane and the Enterprise car hire office when he was confronted by another man shortly after 11pm on Thursday, November 14.
The robber demanded money and then began punching the victim, who tried to run from the scene but was rugby tackled to the ground by the attacker who then carried on hitting him before searching his pockets, stealing cash and walking off.
The victim sustained injuries to his face which required hospital treatment.
Det Con Stacey Keogh said: "The victim did know the man who attacked him but we need independent witnesses to come forward and tell us what they saw or heard. It was a nasty robbery and bearing in mind where it took place we are hoping someone who was passing the scene noticed what was happening. If so then it’s important they contact us without delay."
A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the robbery and on suspicion of breaching an interim Anti Social Behaviour Order. He was released on police bail until December 14 pending further inquiries.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call Det Con Keogh at North Worcestershire CID on 101, quoting incident reference 697-S-141113 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
