RESIDENTS will be getting into the festive spirit as Batchley Support Group hosts its annual Christmas event.

The Yule By The School event will start at 5.30pm on Friday (December 6) with a procession of carol singers accompanied by representatives from the Salvation Army, as well as Santa in his sleigh.

The procession will start at Batchley First School and make its way through St David's House and Queen's Cottages to the Christmas tree opposite the Batchley Road shops.

Carols will be sung around the tree at 5.45pm before the lights are switched on at 6pm followed by a fireworks display.

A grotto will be open at Batchley Community Centre from 6.15pm to 7.30pm at a cost of £1.50 per child to include a gift (maximum age ten).

Paul Woolcock, community development manager at Batchley Support Group, said: "I would like to say thank you to all the people and sponsors who have donated time, money and effort to help make this a special event."
