POLICE chiefs could look to share a base with other emergency services as a way of keeping a building in the town.
Supt Kevin Purcell told councillors this week there would always be a policing base within Redditch of a similar size to the current Grove Street station but said they were looking at the possibility of sharing a site with other organisations.
A new combined fire and police station is currently being built in Bromsgrove, something which Supt Purcell said was being encouraged 'across the board' - although he also hinted this sharing model could be extended to organisations other than the emergency services if a suitable building was found.
Talks are set to take place in the next four to five years regarding the future of the police station, with the council being asked if they have any properties which have room for not only the staff and officers but also parking for up to 60 West Mercia vehicles.
Speaking at a Redditch Borough Council crime and disorder scrutiny panel meeting on Tuesday (October 22), he told councillors there were 'no plans' to reduce the size of the base they currently had in Redditch.
"In terms of the building itself, the building is one of the most costly police stations we have because of the design.
"We will be asking colleagues from councils and other public services whether there are facilities where we can work with them or whether we can look at other buildings."
