THREE charities which support Redditch residents have benefited from cash boosts, thanks to a building society.

The Primrose Hospice has received a £500 boost from the Bromsgrove branch of the West Brom building society to help with the services it offers to life-limited patients and their families.

Lung cancer charity Breathe Easy Redditch and Bromsgrove and Home Start, North East Worcestershire, which helps parents struggling to support a family, also received £250 each from the West Brom.

Lucy Baylis, the Primrose's community fund-raiser, thanked the West Brom and its customers.

"We need £1.6million every year to offer our services free of charge, so this donation is a great boost for everyone at the hospice," she said.

"All of their needs are met here at Primrose, not just medically but emotional, spiritually and physically.”

The cash was handed out as part of the building society’s ongoing Community Counts scheme.

Steve Perry, branch manager at Bromsgrove, said: “The Community Counts scheme generates fantastic support from our customers and it is pleasing to see the money going to three great local charities.”

Dave Dyer, Breathe Easy Redditch and Bromsgrove chairman, said: "Whilst the group tries to fund-raise themselves, their conditions make it very difficult.

"This donation will make a huge difference."
