THE OLDEST customer at a Headless Cross takeaway received a tasty treat in recognition of his 30 years of loyal custom.
Rectory Road Fish Bar owner Andrew Hanson served up a meal of fish and chips to 100-year-old Allan Barber alongside a bottle of champagne.
He said: “He’s been coming in to the chippy for years and I had always promised him complimentary fish and chips if he reached 100.
“He hasn’t been well enough to come in himself the last year or so and had been sending his son to fetch his weekly treat but I hadn’t forgotten my promise to him, so I went to see him with a bottle of bubbly and the fish and chips I promised him.
“What an amazing guy, he really is an inspiration. It was nice to celebrate such a momentous occasion with him.”
