PROUD Wythall man Andrew Young has seen his late war veteran father’s memoirs published, detailing the time he spent in a prisoner of war camp.
Life on the Death Railway: Memoirs of a British POW tells the real-life story of Stuart Young and other servicemen who were prisoners of war in Thailand during the Second World War.
Friend Dr Tony Pollard, from Channel 4’s Time Team, helped the author’s son in the publishing process after the death of his mother earlier this year.
The book has been dedicated to 94 year-old Allan Pratt who saved the author’s life during their time in the prison camp.
Andrew said: “After my father passed away, it became my mother’s dearest wish to get his story published.
“I’m thrilled the book has been dedicated to Allan without whose kind comradeship in looking out for each other during a time of grave danger, none of this would have been possible.”
The book is available from www.pen-and-sword.co.uk for £19.99.
