A BUSINESSMAN who became the largest MG Rover dealer in the world will be signing copies of his new biography in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
Douglas Clark’s Belts and Braces, penned by local writer Euan Rose, tells the story of Doug who was born into poverty in Mustow Green and progressed from mending lawnmowers as a child to running 11 motor dealerships, with his brother Malcolm, generating a turnover of more than £60million.
Clark’s had dealerships in Redditch, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster and Rednal and, when he retired in 2002, he employed over 450 people locally.
Doug said it was customers and friends who encouraged him to share his story.
“My success didn’t just happen,” he said.
“It was the result of hard work, recognising opportunities and the choices I made.”
The signing takes place between 10am and 4pm next Saturday (September 14).
