BALLOONS flew into the skies over Redditch in honour of those competing in the Special Olympic Games.
Redditch’s team released ten balloons to represent the number of Olympians from the town who are attending the National Summer Games in Bath from August 28 to September 1.
MP Karen Lumley and Mayor of Redditch Wanda King also attended the event to mark the formal send off which towns and cities across the county took part in on Tuesday (August 27).
Each balloon has the name of a competitor as well as an e-mail address so the finder can have a chance to claim a prize including a free meal for two at the Foxlydiate Arms.
Olympians competing include Richard Daykin, Chris Finch and Rachelle Darling for gymnastics, Shane Dennis and Dan Whitmore in swimming and Jonathan Wedgbury, Laurie Brooks, Kevin Holloway, Jessica Hiles and Stacey Everill in athletics.
The Special Olympics GB National Summer Games is the country’s largest sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities, held every four years.
Mrs Lumley, who is a patron of the group, said: “I know they will make the town immensely proud of their achievements.”
