COUNCIL chiefs have called on residents to stop releasing balloons outside.
Worcestershire County Council has adopted the Marine Society Balloon Policy, which supports the use of balloons when they are used and disposed of responsibly but considers intentionally letting them go outside as littering.
Leader Adrian Hardman said looking at the beautiful local environment was a priority for the council.
"Balloons and sky lanterns may look pretty but can have a serious effect on our countryside and the animals which live there.
"I am proud we have made this decision and hope that Worcestershire's residents will help us take care of the natural environment."
